Mona•Vie, a natural health drink company has kept pace with not only the needs of their consumers, but the scientific community by offering a new product they are calling EMV. The tagline says EMV “recharges body and mind with a boost of sustained energy and proprietary blend of antioxidant rich fruits”. Anyone who has dragged through the 3 pm slumps knows that every now and then you just need a little extra something to get you over the hump to dinner time. Sure we could turn to a sugary soda or a candy bar, but with the alarming rate of obesity not only in the United State, but the world at “large” as well, there has got to be a better alternative.
Your average 20 oz soda has 250 calories per serving and a whopping 69 grams of sugar (over 20% of the calorie content). And while you will feel “pepped” up shortly after drinking it (because of the unhealthy sugar rush) you will crash soon afterward. Your body will not make much use of that sugar induced energy because it will not be there long enough to use. What you will end up with is a lower crash than you started with, excess calories, as well as a number of health issues from the caffeine.
Think you are better off with a diet soda? Don’t reach for that can just yet. While there are no calories in the diet soda, there are artificial sweeteners as well as caffeine. The problem with artificial sweeteners is simple: the body does not recognize them so they might as well not exist. Your body knows the sugary rush of a fizzy cola- but when that sugary rush does not come, it will send out requests for more and more until it gets what it wants. Yes, its true, diet sodas can actually make you gain weight.
